One of a toddler’s delights is being able to control her body. Just look at the joy on her face when she can go poop in her potty for the first time!
As crazy as it sounds, potty training and mindfulness training do have one thing in common. You notice an urge and then choose to take a course of action. The toddler learns to go the bathroom. The adult learns to add in a breath. 🙂
As an adult, you may take for granted that you are in control of your body. Yet, there is a gift in remembering that you are in control.
Last week, I shared how mindful breathing (vs guided relaxation) can ground you.
This week I offer a video introduction I made for the members of Radiant Women. I explain the concept of using the breath in any given situation to ground yourself. You can apply mindful breathing in a meeting, or in the kitchen, or when you feel down. Think of it as potty training for the adults. (!)

In my coaching business, I take more time to develop this skill with women inside a variety of situations and personal challenges. However, you will get a start with this video.
When you practice mindful breathing, notice that you are the one in control of your breath.
You also have a choice to sprinkle in some compassion or kindness for yourself (or another) after you breathe.
Love, Kirsten

PPS. Did you laugh a little at my potty training analogy? I hope so. Laughter is so good.
News that inspires and restores your soul
My dad was raised on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin. He often tells me that cows are smarter than humans know. This week I share a video that shows how a cow carefully undoes the electric fence and avoids shock. The farmer reported later that he watched the cow do this over again.
I love the comments below the video too. 🙂
